Drinks :: 5 ways to create snow cones for adults

summer is here + it's time to grab that snow cone machine + amp up some snow cones adult-style! these are refreshing + perfect for a hot afternoon gathering with friends. all of the liquids can be made ahead of time + stored in your fridge overnight to give you more time on the day of your event. I recommend getting some of the below squeeze bottles + filling them with your mixture choice(s). I also use the squeeze bottles for so many recipes, such as sauces for entrees to fancy up your food plating skills. I need to work on that, btw.

I got this snow cone machine on Amazon + it's got a cool retro vibe, good price, I love the colors + it works really well. it comes with 2 plastic reusable cups which you can see in my photos. besides the benefit of being reusable, they have stands on the bottoms that make them seem more adult for these alcohol versions.

onto the recipes!

first up, is a LEMON BERRY MOJITO SNOW CONE.

I'll go into more detail with this one, but you'll use the same muddling technique for each drink.

INGREDIENTS for each serving

2 lemon wedges

2 tbsp fresh berries (your choice, I used strawberries)

3-5 mint sprigs

1 tsp sugar

2 oz light rum

cranberry juice (to your preferred taste)

2 oz soda water

garnish with berry + mint leaf

DIRECTIONS

combine all ingredients in a small bowl + muddle

after the ingredients are muddled, allow to sit for about 5 minutes to soak up all of the flavors.

then place the muddled ingredients in the bottom half of a cocktail shaker.

using a cocktail mesh strainer, drain into a squeeze bottle

fill the bottles + place in the fridge until you're ready to drizzle on your snow cones. I was only making these for the 2 of us so I didn't need to fill it.

then when ready to prepare, follow the directions on your specific snow cone machine for working the machine + filling your cones with crushed ice, drizzle, and garnish. VOILA!

next is the ORANGE BASIL MOJITO SNOW CONE

INGREDIENTS for each serving

1 large orange (sliced)

3-10 basil leaves

1 tsp sugar

2-4 dashes of orange bitters (optional)

or you can use 2 oz of orange juice

2 oz light rum

dash of soda water

garnish with orange slice + basil leaf

DIRECTIONS

-same as the other mojitos-

the one that really says summer to me is the WATERMELON MOJITO SNOW CONE

INGREDIENTS for each serving

1/4 cup of fresh watermelon

1 lime wedge

3-10 mint leaves

1/2 tsp sugar

2-4 dashes of bitters (my favorite is Angostura Bitters)

2 oz light rum

dash of soda water

garnish with lime slice, watermelon slice, + mint leaf

DIRECTIONS

-same as other mojitos-

the PINA COLADA MOJITO SNOW CONE is the quickest to put together as it has fewer ingredients.

INGREDIENTS for each serving

2 oz Malibu rum (or your choice of coconut rum)

1/2 cup fresh pineapple or canned pineapple

garnish with pineapple slice + a cherry

DIRECTIONS

-same as the other mojitos-

CAFE REGGAE SNOW CONES are a great way to get your caffeine fix + as a coffee lover I could drink this one every day.

INGREDIENTS for each serving

1 1/2 cup Kahlua

3/4 oz dark creme de cacao

1 cup cold black coffee

dash of half-n-half (if you drink your coffee black then consider this optional)

DIRECTIONS

combine all ingredients

pour into squeeze bottle until ready to serve

Hope you enjoy + Happy Summer!
